Capability updates for DCM Projects in Snowflake

Snowflake has released new DCM Projects capabilities in GA and preview, including support for new commands and declarative management.

O que mudou

New DCM Projects features are now generally available or in preview, enabling declarative management for objects, permissions, and code.

Use cases

Imagine you need to manage the lifecycle of objects and code in Snowflake declaratively and integrated with your version control. With these updates, you can:

  • Create or alter pipes and streams using declarative commands.
  • Manage code bundles and Streamlit applications declaratively.
  • Apply inherited grants and container-level privileges.

How to use

You can declare new components and artifacts in your DCM project manifest and definition files.

DEFINE CODE BUNDLE DEMO.JOBS.MY_JOB
  FROM 'asset://my_job'
  COMMENT = 'Python job managed by DCM';

What happens in this code:

  1. DCM reads the Code Bundle definition pointing to the specified asset.
  2. The bundle lifecycle (creation or alteration) is executed based on the configuration.
  3. The descriptive comment is applied to the managed object in the environment.

Limitations and requirements

  • Some features such as Code Bundles and Streamlits remain in preview.
  • Changeset completeness in plan outputs is not yet guaranteed for preview features.
  • Certain objects and attachments require external configuration outside of DCM projects.
