You can now change the type of an existing organization user between PERSON and SERVICE using the ALTER ORGANIZATION USER command.

O que mudou

Use cases

Imagine you need to convert an automated user account from a person to a service type to adjust authentication methods across your organization. You can now change the user type and automatically propagate this change to all linked accounts.

How to use

Use the ALTER ORGANIZATION USER command to set or unset the TYPE property.

ALTER ORGANIZATION USER report_loader
  SET TYPE = SERVICE;

What happens in this code:

  1. Targets the organization user report_loader.
  2. Sets the TYPE property to SERVICE.
  3. Propagates the change to the corresponding user object in every regular account that imported this user.
ALTER ORGANIZATION USER report_loader
  UNSET TYPE;

What happens in this code:

  1. Unsets the custom TYPE property from the organization user report_loader.
  2. Reverts the user to the default PERSON type.

Limitations and requirements

  • Requires Snowflake Enterprise Edition.
  • The role used to run the command must have the MANAGE ORGANIZATION USERS privilege at the account level (default for GLOBALORGADMIN and USERADMIN system roles).
  • The change applies to all regular accounts that imported the organization user and linked users.
