Conversation controls in Genie Code to branch and edit chats

Genie Code adds new conversation control features to test different directions, ask quick questions, and correct prompts without losing context.

Use cases

Imagine you are developing a query with the assistant and want to test an alternative approach or ask a quick side question without cluttering your history.

• Fork a conversation from a specific message to create an independent thread.
• Ask quick side questions using the /btw command.
• Edit earlier messages to regenerate the response from that point.

How to use

Interact with these controls directly in the Genie Code interface. Here is how to apply the main features:

1. To fork, click "Fork conversation from here" under the Genie Code message you want to use as a base. A new independent thread opens.
2. To ask a quick side question, type the command followed by your question in the prompt box:

/btw What does the CLUSTER BY clause do in this query?

What happens in this code:

1. Genie Code answers in a floating card using the current conversation context.

2. The question and answer do not become part of the main thread history.

3. If needed, click "Continue Thread" on the card to turn the side question into a new fork.

4. To edit a message, hover over your text, click "Edit", adjust the content, and confirm the change to regenerate the flow.

Limitations and requirements

• You can only fork from a Genie Code message, never from your own messages.
• You cannot fork shared or read-only chats that you do not own.
• Editing a message permanently removes all subsequent responses in the current thread; if you want to keep the history, fork the conversation first.
