Direct app links and transient table exclusion in DMFs in Snowflake

This update brings improvements to the Snowflake ecosystem, allowing direct links to Snowflake Native Apps and control over metric evaluations on transient tables.

Use cases

Imagine you need to share an installed app directly with a business user without navigating through the main Snowsight interface, or you want to prevent data quality functions (DMF) from running on transient tables.

• Share direct links to Streamlit apps or service endpoints.
• Exclude transient-type tables from schema-level DMF associations.

How to use

You can configure the exclusion of transient tables in Data Metric Function (DMF) associations using specific parameters at the schema level.

ALTER SCHEMA my_schema SET DATA METRIC FUNCTION DMF_QUALITY EXCLUDE_TABLE_TYPES = ('TRANSIENT');

What happens in this code:

1. The command alters the settings of the specified schema.
2. It applies the chosen DMF while excluding transient tables.
3. Snowflake stops associating the metric with transient-type objects.

Limitations and requirements

• Schema-level data metric functions automatically skip session temporary tables (CREATE TEMPORARY TABLE).
• Direct app link recipients must have a valid role with access to the application in the consumer account.
