Discover page and domains are now generally available in Databricks

The Discover page and domains are now generally available (GA). This centralized browsing experience helps teams find tables, dashboards, notebooks, and AI agents without needing deep technical knowledge of catalog hierarchies.

Use cases

Imagine you need to find data assets for a specific business area without knowing the technical catalog hierarchy. With this feature, you can:

• Organize data assets and business terms into domains and subdomains aligned with your operations.
• Highlight key assets using custom curation.
• Explore AI-powered recommendations to discover popular datasets.
• Search for unified assets across your entire workspace.

How to use

In the Databricks workspace sidebar, click Discover to open the main page.

To browse domains:

1. Click a card under the domain browsing section to view the associated assets.
2. Use the global search bar to filter by domains, subdomains, or specific asset types.
3. Switch the scope dropdown menu to search across all workspaces in your account when needed.

Limitations and requirements

• Curating domains and custom sections with assets from other workspaces is not available in the global scope view.
• Asset names and file paths are not replicated across regions, preventing searches by name or path in other regions.
• Certain associated features, such as business terminology pages, remain in Beta stage.

Using it in a pipeline

After structuring your tables in the Gold layer, use domains on the Discover page to expose finalized data to business analysts and consumer teams in an organized manner.
