Genie One MCP server is now generally available

The Genie One MCP server is now GA as the system.ai.genie_one_mcp service in Unity Gateway, enabling external agents with Genie data.

O que mudou

The Genie One MCP server is now generally available (GA) as the managed service system.ai.genie_one_mcp in Unity Gateway. It exposes Genie as a conversational tool using the Model Context Protocol (MCP), allowing external AI clients and agents to answer data questions grounded in verified insights with Unity Catalog permissions enforced on every request.

Use cases

Imagine you need to integrate an external AI assistant or IDE, such as Claude, ChatGPT, or Cursor, to answer business questions using Genie's trusted insights.

  • Connect MCP clients to Databricks for queries based on verified data.
  • Automatically enforce Unity Catalog security rules and permissions.
  • Replace the previous Beta endpoint with a standard, supported service.

How to use

Configure your MCP client to point to the Databricks-provided managed service in Unity Gateway.

# Example of configuring an MCP client using the system.ai service
mcp_service_endpoint = "system.ai.genie_one_mcp"

What happens in this code:

  1. Defines the identifier for the service within Unity Gateway.
  2. Enables the MCP client to communicate directly with Genie.

Limitations and requirements

  • The previous endpoint (https:///api/2.0/mcp/genie) is deprecated and will be sunset on October 31, 2026.
  • All workloads must be migrated to the system.ai.genie_one_mcp service before the sunset date.
  • Requires Unity Gateway and proper permissions configured in Unity Catalog.
