Horizon Catalog Explorer replaces Database Explorer in Snowsight

The new Horizon Catalog Explorer is now the default experience in Snowsight to browse databases, schemas, and objects with a unified view.

O que mudou

The Horizon Catalog Explorer becomes the default interface in Snowsight to explore account objects, replacing the former Database Explorer. It brings a persistent navigation tree, breadcrumbs, redesigned search results, and unified detail pages to review descriptions, columns, tags, and contacts.

Use cases

Imagine you need to quickly find a table, check schema permissions, or inspect copy history without leaving the catalog interface. With the new explorer, you can:

  • Browse local, shared, or Snowflake Marketplace databases within a persistent tree.
  • View unified object details, including columns and tags.
  • Perform quick tasks such as previewing data and checking copy history.

How to use

Log in to Snowsight and open the new navigation interface from the sidebar menu.

  1. Sign in to Snowsight with your credentials.
  2. In the navigation menu, click Catalog » Explorer.
  3. Use the navigation tree or search bar to locate the desired database, schema, or table.
  4. If you need to revert to the legacy interface for your session, click the ⓘ icon next to Horizon Catalog and turn off Show new catalog UI.

Limitations and requirements

The feature is in Public Preview across all Snowflake regions on AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud, including government and China regions. To view any object in the interface, your active role must have at least the USAGE privilege granted on it.
