Monitor streams with the new STREAMS view in Account Usage
The new ACCOUNT_USAGE.STREAMS view in Snowflake lists properties, source objects, mode, and validity for all streams in the account.
O que mudou
The STREAMS view has been added to the ACCOUNT_USAGE schema to centralize metadata about all streams in your Snowflake account.### Use casesImagine you need to audit which streams are active, what sources they monitor, and which ones are at risk of expiring. With this view, you can quickly list your stream inventory for governance, cleanup, or dependency analysis. You can check: source objects and base tables, operation mode (append-only, insert-only, or default), creation date, owner, and estimated staleness time.### How to use```sql SELECT stream_catalog, stream_schema, stream_name, source_type, mode, created FROM snowflake.account_usage.streams WHERE deleted IS NULL ORDER BY stream_catalog, stream_schema, stream_name;
1. Selects the database, schema, name, source type, mode, and creation date for each stream.
2. Filters the query on the `snowflake.account_usage.streams` view to exclude deleted streams.
3. Orders the results by the fully qualified object path for readability.
```sql
SELECT stream_catalog, stream_schema, stream_name, table_name, stale_after
FROM snowflake.account_usage.streams
WHERE deleted IS NULL
AND stale_after < DATEADD('day', -1, CURRENT_TIMESTAMP())
ORDER BY stale_after;
```What happens in this code:
1. Retrieves metadata for active streams including the expiration forecast (`stale_after`).
2. Applies a filter to return only streams whose expiration date passed more than a day ago.
3. Orders the list by the staleness timestamp to identify candidates for cleanup.### What it returnsField | Description
--- | ---
STREAM_ID | Internal Snowflake-generated identifier for the stream.
STREAM_NAME | Name of the stream.
STREAM_SCHEMA | Name of the schema that contains the stream.
STREAM_CATALOG | Name of the database that contains the stream.
OWNER | Name of the role that owns the stream.
TABLE_NAME | Fully qualified name of the stream's source object.
SOURCE_TYPE | Type of the source object (Table, View, External Table, Stage).
BASE_TABLES | Underlying base tables tracked by the stream.
TYPE | Type of the stream (currently DELTA only).
MODE | Stream mode (APPEND_ONLY, INSERT_ONLY, or DEFAULT).
STALE_AFTER | Timestamp when the stream becomes stale if unconsumed.
DELETED | Drop timestamp of the stream, or NULL if active.### Limitations and requirements- Latency for the view can be up to 2 hours.
- Streams whose base tables are shared from another account have limited support in this view.
