Schedule automatic data refresh in the Databricks Excel Add-in

You can now schedule automatic refreshes for queries, tables, and pivot tables imported into Excel using the Databricks add-in.

O que mudou

Use cases

Imagine you maintain financial or operational reports in Excel connected directly to Databricks and need data to refresh without manual intervention. With this feature, you can:

  • Automate refreshes for saved queries, tables, and pivot tables.
  • Set frequencies using time intervals or calendar schedules.
  • Choose the SQL warehouse that runs each refresh.
  • Review execution history directly inside Excel.

How to use

Open the Databricks Excel Add-in panel, go to your saved imports, and configure the routine:

  1. Open the Databricks Excel Add-in and go to Saved imports.
  2. Select the calendar button next to the desired import.
  3. Enter the schedule name, choose an interval or schedule cadence, and select the SQL warehouse.
  4. Select Create Schedule.

What happens in this process:

  1. The add-in links your Databricks account with the workbook stored in OneDrive or SharePoint.
  2. The schedule runs autonomously using the provided credentials.
  3. Run history is available in the Run history tab for auditing and troubleshooting.

Limitations and requirements

  • Stage: Public Preview.
  • The Excel workbook must be saved in Microsoft OneDrive or SharePoint.
  • Your Microsoft account must be connected to the add-in with the required permissions (Files.ReadWrite and offline_access).
  • You must have permission to use the selected SQL warehouse.
  • The add-in file must include the Microsoft authentication domain in its XML configuration.
