Snowflake Data Clean Rooms updates and API version 18.1

Use cases

Imagine you manage secure data collaboration environments and need to track API versions and apply performance improvements. You can check the current API version, enable automatic updates, or apply manual patches.

How to use

You can check the current environment version by running a SQL command in Snowflake.

SELECT * FROM SAMOOHA_BY_SNOWFLAKE_LOCAL_DB.ADMIN.VERSION;

What happens in this code:

1. The query accesses the version table located in the local clean room database.
2. The result returns the currently installed version number.

To enable automatic API updates, run the following commands:

USE ROLE SAMOOHA_APP_ROLE;
CALL SAMOOHA_BY_SNOWFLAKE_LOCAL_DB.library.enable_local_db_auto_upgrades();

What happens in this code:

1. Sets the active role to SAMOOHA_APP_ROLE.
2. Calls the stored procedure to enable automatic upgrades on the local database.

Limitations and requirements

UI updates require users to log out and log back in to their sessions. Managing API updates requires administrator permissions in the clean rooms environment. Not available in Snowflake government and VPS deployments.
