Tags now available for dashboards, notebooks, apps, and Genie Agents

Organize workspace assets like dashboards, notebooks, apps, and Genie Agents by applying Unity Catalog tags.

O que mudou

You can now apply key-value tags to dashboards, notebooks, Databricks apps, and Genie Agents to organize and categorize workspace assets. This release supports both ungoverned and governed Unity Catalog tags.

Use cases

Imagine you need to group workspace assets by project or department to improve search and governance. With this feature, you can:

  • Categorize dashboards and notebooks easily.
  • Organize Databricks apps and Genie Agents.
  • Discover resources using the workspace search bar.

How to use

In Databricks Runtime 16.1 and above, use the SET TAG and UNSET TAG SQL commands to manage tags on securable objects.

SET TAG ON CATALOG meu_catalogo `cost_center` = `hr`;

UNSET TAG ON CATALOG meu_catalogo cost_center;

What happens in this code:

  1. The SET TAG statement assigns the tag key cost_center with value hr to the specified catalog.
  2. The UNSET TAG statement removes the tag from the catalog.

Limitations and requirements

  • This feature is generally available (GA).
  • Tag keys are case-sensitive.
  • A single object can have a maximum of 50 tags.
  • Tag keys and values have a maximum length of 256 characters.
