Zero-copy integration for Workday Data Cloud is now generally available

The zero-copy integration between Workday Data Cloud and Snowflake is generally available. You can query Workday data directly in Snowflake without moving files or duplicating databases, keeping Workday as the system of record.

Use cases

Imagine you need to cross HR employee data with financial metrics, but personnel data remains locked in Workday. With this integration, you can:

• Query Workday data in real time on every SELECT statement.
• Avoid building and maintaining complex ETL pipelines.
• Mount Workday namespaces as native Snowflake schemas.

How to use

Create the zero-copy connector by authenticating with your Workday tenant and mount the catalog as a linked database.

CREATE ZEROCOPY CONNECTOR my_workday_connector
  TYPE = WORKDAY
  TENANT = 'my_tenant'
  HOST = 'wd2-impl-api.workday.com'
  CLIENT_ID = 'my_client_id'
  CLIENT_SECRET = 'my_secret';

What happens in this code:

1. The command creates a zero-copy connector object in Snowflake.
2. The TYPE parameter specifies Workday as the source.
3. The credentials supplied by your Workday administrator establish outbound authentication.

Next, mount the catalog:

CREATE DATABASE my_workday_database
  FROM CATALOG my_workday_connector;

What happens in this code:

1. Snowflake connects to the Workday Data Cloud catalog.
2. Each Workday namespace is mapped as a schema in the created database.
3. Each Workday table becomes immediately available for SQL queries.

Limitations and requirements

• Available for commercial accounts in all AWS, Azure, and GCP regions.
• Not available in Virtual Private Snowflake (VPS) deployments, government regions, or the People's Republic of China.
• On the Workday side, support is restricted to Workday Data Cloud on AWS.
• Catalog-linked databases are read-only.
